Encrypt a folder and store it online

You want to store a folder online while keeping control of its password. LockerCube creates an encrypted copy on your computer. That copy is called a data cube.

Prepare the folder

Decide which files belong together before you start. A separate folder is easier to use than a mixture of drafts, final documents and duplicate photos. Your original folder stays on your computer.

For example, you might want to keep the finished photos from a project. Put the final files in one folder and check its size. The encrypted data cube’s size determines the storage tier. The available tiers are listed under pricing.

Create a data cube in four steps

  1. Download LockerCube. Choose the Windows or macOS download on the product page and open the application on your computer.
  2. Select your prepared folder. Check that it contains the files you want to keep before encrypting it.
  3. Set your own password. Use a long, unique password and keep it somewhere you can find later. LockerCube does not store it and cannot reset it.
  4. Store the encrypted copy online. Follow the steps in LockerCube. Keep the information you receive for finding and opening the data cube again.

Check the result

After the process finishes, check that you can find the data cube and open it with LockerCube and your password. Open one of the files inside as well. This checks the whole route back to your files, rather than just the download.

The data cube is a copy of the selected folder. If you continue working on the original files later, check which version the cube contains before storing another copy. A clear folder name with a date makes the versions easier to tell apart.

Keep the storage period in mind

You can try up to 1 GB free for 30 days. Paid storage tiers cover one year. The stored data cube is deleted after expiry unless you actively renew it. A one-time payment therefore does not mean unlimited storage time.

Keep your password separate from any link you share publicly. Someone who has an encrypted cube still needs the correct password and LockerCube to open it.
